Embarking on its 20th year since its founding in 2004, Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. hosted its anniversary celebration today, expressing its appreciation for all the partners who offered their support and assistance along the way. The company also shared its record achievements of “Three Firsts” in the biomedical sector over the past 20 years, earning top-ranking in satisfaction for its shampoo, ranking first in online market share for its probiotics, and obtaining Taiwan’s first permit for a rapid screening test for influenza. Looking toward the future, Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. has announced that it will continue to expand its business empire and global business strategy, dedicate itself fully to fulfilling its ideals for preventive medicine, and build a healthy, wonderful society in Taiwan.

For Formosa Biomedical’s “Safeguarding Health and Sustainable Living” themed celebratory party today, it has made a special return to the Breeze Center in Taipei, where it placed its first department store counter for the cosmetic and personal care brand FORTE two decades ago. Chairman Sandy Wang of Formosa Biomedical invited partners from industry, healthcare, and academia and brand ambassadors, including esteemed guests such as Chairman Henry Liao of the Breeze Group and his wife Aimee Sun, President Ming-Je Tang of Chang Gung University, and Chairman Wen-Jin Cherng of the Chang Gung Steering Committee, to gather in strolling along the Hall of History and viewing a commemorative film in memory of each milestone achievement and highlight of Formosa Biomedical’s 20 years.

Sandy Wang related that it was her development of a moisturizing gel for her father Yung-Ching Wang, founder of the Formosa Plastics Group, that led to the founding of FORTE. This eventually heralded the transformation of the Detergents Division of the Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation into Formosa Biomedical and marked its official entry into the market for high-end cosmetics and personal care. From the bottle of moisturizing gel back then to today’s six major professional domains of “Life, Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmacology, and Medical Devices,” the corporation has established a comprehensive biomedical technology empire in two decades.

In describing her vision, Sandy Wang indicated that all the Formosa Biomedical product lines and services have reached maturity, successfully establishing themselves in the Taiwan market. Now, the corporation will be moving toward the next phase of development, which is the promotion of preventive medicine that Formosa Biomedical deems the most important. In the future, in addition to establishing iHealth clinics and continuing to help remote and rural areas through Formosa Plastics’ healthcare teams, the corporation will commit even more resources to research in regenerative medicine to achieve the dual goals of treatment and prevention, allowing the general public to live a healthy old age through new medical technologies.
President Hui-Chi Liu of Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. remarked that Formosa Biomedical Technology Corp. has experienced two golden decades in which it achieved “Three Firsts” in the biomedical sector, including selling 20 million bottles of shampoo, ranked first in brand satisfaction; selling 70 million packs of Probiotics Complex PLUS, ranked first in online market share; and obtaining Taiwan’s first permit for a rapid screening test for influenza and the highest number of permits for in vitro diagnostic reagents in Taiwan, with sales of 60 million reagent kits. In addition, it contributed its efforts as a member of the National Pandemic Fighting Team during the Covid pandemic.

Hui-Chi Liu stated that Formosa Biomedical has built four major brands over the past 20 years, FORTE, Dr’s Formula, Derma Formula (DF), and MD Formula. Business volumes have grown from 1.069 billion in 2004 to 3.256 billion in 2022. The 17 subsidiary companies it has invested in have expanded their reach to areas such as new energy sources and circular economy. In the future, it will continue to advance basic research in new technologies such as regenerative medicine, AI healthcare, high-end medical devices, and circular economies, achieving the goals of preventive medicine and a sustainable society.

Formosa Biomedical promotes not only preventive medicine for humans but also preventive medicine for the land. In recent years, it donated funds to build Taiwan’s very first solar-powered stadium for Shimen Elementary School in Pingtung, established smart refill stations for laundry detergent throughout Taiwan, recycled secondhand toys to reduce plastic waste, and created a circular economy through recycling of water, batteries, and catalysts and microalgal carbon capture. Committed to giving back to society and cherishing Earth’s resources, Formosa Biomedical embodies the spirit of sustainability as it advances toward its next 20 years.
